Bari overview
Bari, in the eastern cost, is one the main city in Puglia and one of the most popular
destinations.
Among its many attractions are the Basilica of San Nicola and the Castello (Castle), rebuilt on 1233 in Norman-Swabian style, which is the symbol of Bari.
Just south of Bari there is the lovely town of Altamura, surrounded by old walls and home of a majestc Cathedral built by Frederick II in 1231, with its beautifully carved doorway, one of the finest in Italy, filled with fine detail as multiple biblical scenes are represented in a very small space.
You can also visit the ruins of the ancient city of Egnazia, southeast of Bari, which dates back to the 13th century BC, when Bronze Age peoples settled here, and was rebuilt by Greek and Roman civilizations. The archaeological area includes three parts: the city, the necropolis, and the acropolis.
An absoluty unmissable must see, though, is the world famous and Unesco World Heritage site
Alberobello, the “Trulli Town”, about 55 kms from bari. This truly amazing little town is full of several hundreds of “trulli”, curious conical-roofed whitewashed structures only present in this city and never seen anywhere else in the world. The trulli were built with a prehistoric building technique still in use in this region, and there are many ancient ones together with modern trulli which evolved into souvenir shops, restaurants and, of course, accommodation for visitors looking for a unique experience.
City quay
The Marina "Nutica Raniere" is located within the new Port of Bari and represents the best equipped marina of the city for the reception of medium and large sail and motor yachts (up to 40 mts). The quay has a depth of 3,50 mtrs, and all berths are equipped with electricity, water, wi-fi internet and security services, various facilities, fuel station and a nice free relax area with shops and a convenient indoor car park.
Swimming spots near Bari
Along the coast, there are many fine beaches, including those of Cala Paura and Costa dei Trulli in Polignano a Mare and Cala Porta Vecchia in Monopoli.
